Edge Crush Test (ECT) is the force, in pounds per square inch it will take to crush a standard size of corrugated board standing on edge.
Mullen measures the pressure, in pounds per square inch, required to puncture a sheet of corrugated as an indicator of its load carrying capacity under specific conditions. Using Bubble Wrap® to Pack a Moving Box:
Take enough Bubble Wrap® to fit snugly in the bottom of your moving boxes. Tear along perforated cut line in between two rows of bubbles to keep as many air pockets intact as possible.
Place the sheets of Bubble Wrap® in the bottom of a moving box. Press gently to secure its corners in the box's corners.
Wrap fragile items in Bubble Wrap®. Place a sheet of Bubble Wrap® on a flat work area, such as the floor or a tabletop. Place the item in the center of the sheet and fold the corners over the top of the item. Secure the Bubble Wrap® with a piece or two of clear packing tape.
Place wrapped items in the prepared box. Although items are wrapped, the more delicate ones should be placed on top. In general, pack plates first, bowls next and glasses or cups last. Fill boxes so weight is evenly distributed. Make sure that it is not too heavy to lift safely.
Fill gaps in boxes with packing paper. Crumple sheets of packing paper and stuff them into gaps between wrapped items. This will add soft pressure so that items do not move inside the box when it is lifted. Be sure to take packing paper and fill in all gaps until you don't hear shifting when boxes are rocked gently.
Place a sheet of Bubble Wrap® on top of the items, cut pack flaps and close the moving box flaps. Use packing tape to seal the box shut. Write the item description or room name on the outside. Also, mark the box "Fragile," so movers are aware that the contents could be damaged easily.
How to Pack Framed Art with Bubble Wrap®:
Framed artwork is difficult to pack because of its size and the need for meticulous packaging to protect its fragile parts. However, knowing that you are able to use Bubble Wrap® to preserve a priceless painting or a beloved heirloom makes the task worth the time and effort.
Prepare a box for your artwork by putting wadded packing paper at the bottom of the box. Make sure there is enough newsprint paper to cover the entire base of the box. Do not close your box's top end.
Put masking tape across the front of the framed art if it is framed with glass. Stick the tape like an "X" to keep the artwork in place if its glass breaks or cracks while in transit.
Wrap the art with Bubble Wrap®. Tape the Bubble Wrap® carefully after two or three wraps to seal. You can also use stretch wrap to additionally secure Bubble Wrap® for added protection.
Place the item inside your box. Fill in all the spaces with more lightly wadded packing paper in case the framed art fits loosely inside your box. Place a sheet of Bubble Wrap® on top of the items. You may use an additional box in case you want added protection.
Close the box and tape its ends with your packaging tape. Label it with "Fragile Art Work."
Packing Paper
Packing paper, a.k.a. newsprint, is an essential packing and moving supply for anyone planning to self pack their belongings for an upcoming move. Using clean, white newsprint (packing paper) sheets will keep both your belongings and your hands free of ink. Using old newspaper as packing paper for moving will cause ink to transfer to your valuables, creating quite a mess to clean up when unpacking your moving boxes at your new destination! Packing paper is ideal for wrapping all your fragile items, like dishes, glasses, and collectables before placing them in our moving boxes. Crumpled sheets of packing paper are also wonderful to fill all the empty space in your moving boxes before sealing them. Filling those voids is critical to insure that your belongings do not shift around during moving and storage.
Each bundle of our Movers Packing Paper contains a 25 lb. of with approximately 425 sheets of clean, white newsprint. Each sheet is roughly 24" x 36". Proper use of packing paper will insure that your belongings arrive safe and sound!
How to Pack China using Packing Paper:
China is best packed in stacks, with paper layered in between. Remember, with delicate items like these, don't skimp on materials.
Start by placing your first piece of china in the center of a stack of packing paper. Fold one half of the paper over it, and then place the next plate on top. Continue this process until you finish the stack: 4-8 plates, depending on thickness. Fold a few more pieces of packing paper over the top, and roll the package together, tucking in the sides as you go.
Line the bottom of our Kitchen Moving Box (these moving boxes are extra thick and sturdy) with crumpled packing paper for padding. The packages of china should be packed on their sides, since this is where the dishes have the most integrity. If you are going to pack different kinds of dishes in the carton, put the china on the bottom, since it is the heaviest, and put lighter, more delicate items on top. Use crumpled packing paper to fill in any gaps in the box; nothing should shift around. Place one final layer of packing paper on top of everything as cushioning.
How to Pack Glassware using Packing Paper:
Take one piece of glassware and lay it on its side on the corner of a stack of packing paper. Roll it in two or three sheets of packing paper, tucking in the extra paper as you roll. When wrapping your glassware, you can tuck some of the excess packing paper into the open end of the pieces to add some support.
Once the glass is wrapped, place it rim-side-down in your moving box. Placing it rim-side-down utilizes the natural strength of the piece, making it less likely to break. When you have completed a layer of glassware, add a layer of crumpled packing paper. Continue repeating these steps until all your glassware is packed. If you have extra space left in the box, fill it with crumpled packing paper. This will keep your glassware and other items from shifting around inside the moving box during the move.
Now, add one final layer of packing paper on top of everything as cushioning. Then, tape the box shut. To finish up, label the carton with its contents and destination in your new home (e.g. glassware: kitchen). For added protection, you can mark the box "fragile" and draw arrows indicating which side of the box should be kept upright.

Natural Rubber Packing Tape provides the most consistent and reliable seal when closing moving boxes.

Natural Rubber Tape works best on moving boxes and shipping boxes made with recycled material.
Acrylic Packing Tape and Clear Hot Melt Packing Tape can fail in damp environments or extreme heat or cold; Natural Rubber Tape provides a strong seal to moving boxes in all types of conditions.
Natural Rubber Tape performs the best in room temperature but it can perform well in temperatures ranging from -30° degrees to 180° degrees. Packing Tape - Hot Melt Tape
Clear Hot Melt Packing Tape – is a perfect solution for people that are looking for an efficient, stronger, and more durable sol packaging tape than acrylic tape. The biggest issue with acrylic tape is that it often splits when applying to moving boxes using any type of tape dispenser. If you are sealing a large number of boxes for moving day, tape splitting slows you down, because it takes time to fix tape splits and also results in wasted time and money spent on cheap tape. In addition, acrylic packing tape needs to be rubbed over a few times in order to create a secure seal that sticks. This too is a waste of time if you are packing and sealing a lot of boxes for moving. The few seconds that it takes to rub acrylic tape in order to get it too securely stick can add up to a great deal of time not well spent. Clear Hot Melt packing tape solves these issues by providing a clean edge tear and a secure seal upon application. Hot Melt packing tape typically has a higher tensile strength (maximum stress that a material can withstand while being stretched) than standard acrylic packing tape, along with a higher resistant to moisture and tears. Clear Hot Melt packing tape is a better option if you often are packing in a humid climate or sealing heavy boxes for moving.
PACKING TAPE TIP: Hot Melt Packing Tape used to seal cheap moving boxes made with a high amount of recycled material, Hot Melt Packing Tape sometimes does not adhere very well to the boxes. Hot Melt also has some temperature restrictions as well. Check manufacture specifications if using tape in varying climate conditions.
Packing Tape - Acrylic Tape
Clear Acrylic Packing Tape – is the most common type of packing tape used sold at major retail chains for sealing moving boxes. Acrylic Tape is easily recognizable due to its transparency. Company logos such as Duck brand and 3M can be seen displayed on the tape core. Acrylic packing tape is extremely elastic and light weight, while being strong enough to handle the bulk of most consumers moving and shipping requirements. While clear acrylic packing tape is typically the most economical tape to use when sealing moving boxes, it should only be used under proper conditions. Acrylic packing tape is best used in dry conditions and at room temperature.
PACKING TAPE TIP: If acrylic packing tape is being used to seal cheap moving boxes made with a high amount of recycled material or an ultra smooth surface, acrylic packing tape generally will not adhere very well to the boxes, resulting in peel back. When this is the case a hot melt or natural rubber clear packing tape may be the better solution.
