Moving Help Tips:
Kitchen Moving Boxes Dish Pack Boxes will likely be the heaviest boxes you pack when moving. The Dish Pack Box's Double Wall construction, along with its added weight will help prevent items from shifting during transport. When packing, be sure to allow a 2" buffer between your items and the sides of the box and fill the voids with compacted packing paper to avoid shifting of items. Also remember to add a protective layer of crumpled packing paper, cushion foam or Bubble Wrap® to the top layer prior to sealing the box. Label all boxes clearly with the word "FRAGILE" on each side. While packing your fragile items is a time consuming task, using proper packing methods will help to ensure your breakables arrive safely at their new home.
Packing Dishes The technique used by professional movers and moving companies when packing dishes is to place 8-10 sheet of crumpled packing paper at the bottom of the Dish Pack Box. Ensure that the packing paper is firmly placed in each corner to guard against compression shock while loading and unloading the box during transport. Starting with your heavier plates, wrap same sized plates together in groups of four as follows. Start with one plate down near the bottom corner of a stack of packing paper. Fold a sheet of paper over so it completely covers the plate, then stack and repeat until you have a stack of four plates. Then fold in the two side wings, and roll forward to the end of the sheet of paper. You will end up with a 4" high dish shaped package. Stack the dish bundle on its edge inside the Dish Pack Box. This method is used by movers because dishes are stronger when packed on edge as a bundle than when packed individually and laid flat. Upon finishing the first layer, add another layer of crumpled packing paper and start the second layer with a stack of wrapped bowls. You should wrap and roll each bowl with packing paper or use a foam sheet when stacking. Stack three to four bowls together and wrap and roll together with packing paper and place on edge within the Dish Pack Box. Repeat until you finish second layer. Your dishes should never make contact with the box; always allow for a 2" buffer between your dishes and the sides of the box. Fill all empty spaces with crumpled packing paper.
Packing Glass | Packing Stemware You should use packing paper when packing glasses or stemware for transport. First, place crumpled packing paper in the glass to help prevent cracking. Then place glass in the center of a sheet of packing paper and wrap and roll. We suggest placing cushion foam sheets or Bubble Wrap® above and below layers of glass and stemware as additional protection when placing items in Dish Pack moving boxes. Your items should never make contact with the box; always allow for a 2" buffer between your items and the sides of the box. Then fill all empty spaces with crumpled packing paper. There are two schools of thought on where to place glass and stemware when packing. One is to dedicate a box exclusively to glasses and stemware. Properly pack and label the box to identify the fragile contents. The second is to spread these breakable items out evenly between all Dish Pack Boxes. The jury is still out on this one.
Packing Utensils | Packing Silverware Utensils and silverware are lightweight and should be packed and placed in Dish Pack Boxes last on the top layer. Use the wrap and roll method with packing paper. Place a handful of utensils in the center of the 2-3 sheets of newsprint and wrap and roll, folding the excess paper inward and rolling over itself. Repeat this for all your Utensils and silverware. Place the wrapped bundles on the top layer of Dish Pack moving boxes. Utilize the same technique with knives and other sharp items labeling the outside "Knives” or “Sharp" to prevent injury when unpacking.
Packing Casserole Dishes When you are packing Casserole dishes, wrap the base first using packing paper. Then turn the lid upside down and place inside the Casserole base and wrap the entire set. Place the wrapped bundle on its side into Dish Pack moving boxes.
Packing Kitchen Appliances Packing small kitchen appliances, like a coffee maker or blender, may require an extra step. Separate the blender and all the parts, wrapping the base by itself. The same should be done with coffee makers. Before wrapping the glass mixer or decanter, place packing paper inside to prevent cracking. Place the lid upside down on top of the mixer and wrap and roll the glass mixer. Wrap and roll coffee pots separately from the machine.
