Moving Help Tips:
Fragile Items Securely pack items that you wish to have an extra layer of protection using packing supplies like bubble wrap, cushion foam or packing paper. Allow a 2” buffer between your items and the cardboard box and fill the voids with packing paper or packing peanuts to prevent shifting during transport and storage.
Books Books and other volumes that need special care and attention should be individually wrapped in packing supplies such as cushion foam or Bubble Wrap® and placed on edge in a small moving box. When you are packing everyday books, binding of the books should be alternated on end as they are placed in boxes. Paperbacks and magazines can be placed on top of books to fill space in moving boxes. The Small Moving Box is ideal for this type of use! Other items suitable for the Small Moving Boxes are shoes, tools, kitchen supplies, bathroom supplies, camera equipment etc. Be sure to use protective cushioning when packing. Packing paper and Bubble Wrap ® offer an ideal protective barrier to ensure your items arrive safely.
Tools Depending on the size and weight of the tool, small moving boxes are ideal for packing and carrying heavier tools. When you pack heavier items in smaller, more manageable cardboard boxes it will help make your move easier. Be sure to clearly label heavier boxes as “Heavy” so they are not placed on top of other moving boxes containing more fragile items when transported by movers and processional moving companies. Fill empty space in boxes with packing supplies such as packing paper, Bubble Wrap® or packing peanuts.
DVDs, CDs, Software Discs, Records, Audio Cassette Tapes and Video Tapes Layer the bottom of small moving boxes with packing paper or Bubble Wrap® . Pack DVDs, CDs, software discs, records and audio cassettes in their protective sleeves or cases. If sleeves or cases are not available, wrap the items in packing paper, Bubble Wrap ® or stretch wrap to prevent scratching. Stand CDs, software discs and records on edge in boxes (do not lay flat). Brace at both ends using a hardcover book or insert loose pieces of cardboard or Bubble Wrap ® to provide a snug fit. Audio cassettes and video tapes may be packed vertically or horizontally on layers of Bubble Wrap ® or packing paper. Fill empty space in boxes with packing paper as needed. Be sure to mark boxes "Fragile."
Canned Goods Food cannot be placed into storage. When a direct move from one home to another takes place, please ensure that any packets, jars and screw top bottles are secured with tape and then packed into the appropriate moving boxes and clearly labeled. Bottles should be wrapped using cushion foam or Bubble Wrap® . Pack upright in 1.5-cube small moving boxes with no more than 24 to 30 cans per box. This same rule applies to wine bottles as well. Allow a 2” buffer between glass bottles and the cardboard and fill the empty space with packing paper or packing peanuts to prevent shifting during transport. Do not mix dry or non-perishable foods with anything that could contaminate or spoil items. Keep food separate!
Medicines Seal caps with packing tape. Wrap and pack upright in small moving boxes. Some prescription drugs, such as insulin, lose their potency if exposed to heat. Check with your pharmacist before transporting them with your moving company. We recommend that you carry all medications with you that you may need access to during your move.
