Packing Paper Help Tips:

Do-it-yourself packing is definitely one way to keep a little something extra in your pocket. Remember time and effort will need to be factored in to ensure your items are packed properly and safely.

  • You should start purchasing professional packing supplies for guaranteed protection of your valuables. Some individuals attempt to secure boxes and wrapping materials by scouring neighborhood grocers, and recycling outdated newspapers, but remember, it's your valuables you're protecting. Professional packing supplies are important because they are made to weather your transition from one place to the next and can even be saved and reused for your next move.
  • Adequate wrapping of your items is required to make certain they are safe for the duration of the move. Wrapping must be done with clean, white, inkless packing paper / newsprint as oppose to newspaper. Newspaper will cause ink to transfer to your valuables. Clean unprinted packing paper will keep your items clean and safe. You begin by placing a small stack of paper on a flat surface and roll each item from the corner. For larger items start in the center and bring the corners together. Before packing your items make sure you line the bottom of the moving box with a few inches of wadded paper for padding. Place your large heavy items on the bottom and lighter more fragile items on the top. All of your fragile items should include extra layers of packing paper or bubble wrap for maximum protection.
  • All of your larger, heavier and more fragile items should be crated and packed by professional movers. This includes items like pianos and pool tables. Professional movers will quilt pad wrap these items after disassembly and safely deliver them to your destination.
  • Keep in mind that you want to pack your out of season and infrequently used items first. Only leave your daily use boxes opened until moving day. On moving day everything should be properly packed, labeled and ready to go. Do-it-yourself packing can be done, and save you lots of money, however, you must do it right. The proper packing supplies will make it much easier to do it right.

Packing Paper - Packing Fragile Items:

Packing Paper is ideal paper for packing breakable items for moving can be a time consuming process though it is necessary and worth it when done right. Knowing how to properly pack priceless china or your collection of crystal figurines could be the difference between everything arriving in one piece or in hundreds of small pieces.

  • Purchase the items you will need to complete this project. The proper packing materials like packing paper, Bubble Wrap® and boxes are important. While you can pack your fragile items in standard cardboard boxes, it is not recommended. Fragile items such as china can be too heavy to move standard cardboard boxes. This is where a stronger kitchen boxes like EZ-Pack Kitchen Dish Boxes are extremely useful.
  • Line the bottom of the box with balled up packing paper or some Bubble Wrap® . This will act as a cushion for the bottom of the box and will help to keep the items from breaking if the box is dropped.
  • Start with the flat items such as plates and saucers first. Wrap each in packing paper (inkless newsprint); stack them on top of each other in the bottom of the storage box. The paper will keep the pieces of from hitting together during the moving process helping to eliminate the chance of breakage. As you pack each item, be sure to make a note of what is being put in each of the boxes. A notebook is a great way to keep track so that you don't leave any smaller items in the boxes.
  • Surround the items in the box with packing paper or bubble wrap. This will keep the items from knocking against the sides of the box. The idea is to pack the box as tightly as possible so that there is no room for any movement to occur.
  • Wrap glassware such as wine goblets in packing paper or Bubble Wrap® and lay them on their sides in the top of the box. Pack them as tightly as possible. Finish off the box with a layer of packing paper and secure the lid with packing tape.
  • Be sure to label the outside of all boxes containing fragile item clearly with the word "Fragile" on all sides.
